Wisconsin Mixed Hardwood Firewood

WISCONSIN MIXED HARDWOOD FIREWOOD
FOR HOME HEATING & OUTDOOR FIRES

The Dependable, All-Purpose Wood — Every Time

Wisconsin Mixed Hardwood Firewood for Home Heating & Outdoor Fires

Mixed hardwood is the everyday workhorse. It is the versatile, economical wood that delivers dependable heat for indoor and outdoor fires alike, the wood stove on a cold night, the backyard fire pit, the weekend bonfire, the pizza oven. An ash-based blend of Wisconsin hardwoods, screened for quality, cut to 16 inches, and kiln-dried down to 15% so it lights easily and burns clean off the truck. Not the specialty pick for one job, the reliable all-purpose pick for nearly all of them, at the best value we sell.

Why Choose Mixed Hardwood Firewood?

  • Versatile, All-Purpose Wood One wood for the whole property. Home heating, wood stoves, fire pits, bonfires, and pizza ovens. Mixed hardwood handles nearly every fire you light without buying a different cord for each.
  • The Most Economical Choice Our base product and our best value. Reliable hardwood heat without paying a premium for a single-species specialty wood. The practical pick for everyday burning.
  • Reliable, Steady Heat An ash-based blend runs roughly 20 to 24 million BTUs per cord, varying with the assortment. Solid, dependable warmth for the home and a hot, even fire outdoors.
  • Kiln-Dried & Bug-Free Dried down to 15% at 265°F, which exceeds the USDA sterilization threshold. No borer larvae, no mold, no beetles. WDATCP certified and safe to stack indoors.
  • Screened & Ready to Burn Every batch is machine-screened to pull dirt, bark debris, and undersized splits. Cut to a uniform 16 inches and ready to burn the moment it arrives, no seasoning wait.
  • Honest, Screened Blend Mostly ash, with locust, maple, walnut, elm, and other Wisconsin hardwoods rotating through. We name what is in the mix instead of leaving it vague, and we screen it for quality.

Mixed Hardwood Firewood for Home Heating & Outdoor Fires in SE Wisconsin

Mixed hardwood is the go-to for everyday burning across SE Wisconsin. It heats the home through a Milwaukee winter, runs the wood stove on the coldest nights, and steps right outside for the Waukesha fire pit, the weekend bonfire, and the pizza oven (heat only). Every cord arrives screened, cut to 16 inches, and kiln-dried to 15%, ready to burn off the truck. Most homeowners burning regularly plan on a half cord to a full cord per season. Not sure how much you need? See our cord of firewood guide. Delivery is available throughout SE Wisconsin, with shipping calculated by zip code at checkout.

What's in the Mix

Most sellers list "mixed hardwood" and stop there, telling you nothing about what is actually in it. We do the opposite. Our mix is mostly ash, the backbone of the blend, with locust, maple, walnut, elm, and other Wisconsin hardwoods rotating through depending on what comes off our select cuts and land-clearing loads. That variety is a strength, not a shortcut. A screened hardwood blend gives you reliable, all-purpose heat at the best value we offer, every species in it is a true hardwood, and every batch runs through our commercial screener so what you get is consistent and clean. Naming the blend honestly is how we beat every competitor's vague listing. Need one species for a specific job? See oak for long overnight heat, hickory for smoking, or cherry and birch for fireplace ambiance. For everything else, mixed hardwood is the all-purpose answer.

A note on cooking

Mixed hardwood is built for heat, not flavor, so it is not the pick for smoking or flavor cooking. The assortment can include species that add no flavor, or that are not ideal for it, like locust. If you are cooking for taste, choose a single species instead, see our best wood for cooking guide.

The exception is the pizza oven, where mixed hardwood shines. A pizza oven only needs clean, hot heat, not smoke flavor, and that is exactly what this blend delivers.

Why Kiln-Dried Mixed Hardwood Burns Better

Mixed hardwood is our base product and our best value, but value does not mean cutting corners. The same kiln, the same 15% standard, and the same screening that go into our single-species cords go into every cord of mixed hardwood. The result is dependable, all-purpose heat that lights on the first match and burns clean, indoors or out, the moment it comes off the truck.

Reliable, All-Purpose Heat

An ash-based blend that runs roughly 20 to 24 million BTUs per cord, varying with the assortment. One dependable wood for the home, the wood stove, the fire pit, the bonfire, and the pizza oven, instead of a different cord for every job.

The everyday workhorse

24 to 32 Hours in Our Kiln

Every cord of mixed hardwood runs 24 to 32 hours in our own commercial kilns at 265°F, down to 15%. No guessing, no air-drying gamble. It lights on the first match and burns clean and hot the moment it comes off the truck.

Kiln-dried in-house

Bug-Free, Burns Clean at 15%

265°F kiln heat exceeds the USDA threshold for sterilization, eliminating ash borer larvae, mold spores, and beetles. At 15% moisture you get minimal creosote and more usable heat from every split. Safe to stack indoors.

Operational Process

7 Steps to Delivering the Best Firewood

Every cord of mixed hardwood we ship goes through seven discrete, audited stages — all handled in-house at our New Berlin, Wisconsin facility. Most competitors stop after step two.

1
Step 01: Sourcing

Direct-Sourced from Wisconsin Loggers

All of our mixed hardwood comes directly from Wisconsin DNR select cuts, land clearing jobs, and mill surplus. No brokers, no out-of-state wood. Every load is sorted to true hardwoods on arrival, so the ash, locust, maple, walnut, and elm in the mix are all the real thing.

Step 02: In-House Processing

Multitek Processor — Cut & Split On Site

Every mixed hardwood log is cut and split in-house on our own Multitek firewood processor at our New Berlin, Wisconsin facility. The Multitek produces uniform 16-inch splits at consistent diameter — the same size, every piece, every cord, year-round. No outsourced processing, no variation between loads. You get the same split in January that you get in July.

Step 03: In-House Kiln Drying

Kiln Dried In-House at 265°F

We operate our own commercial Kiln-Direct kilns on site in New Berlin, Wisconsin, running mixed hardwood at 265°F for 24 to 32 hours per batch. Dried down to 15%, USDA compliant, WDATCP certified (HT#2019086). Most firewood sellers buy wood dried by someone else. We dry it ourselves.

Step 04: Sheltered Storage

Stored Under Cover on Concrete

After kilning, every cord of mixed hardwood moves into our covered, concrete-floor storage facility. No ground contact, no weather exposure. This protects the 15% moisture certification from kiln to delivery — the same number that leaves our kilns is the same number that arrives at your door.

Step 05: Machine Screening

Commercial Firewood Screener

Every batch runs through our in-house commercial firewood screener before it touches a truck. Dirt, bark debris, undersized splits — removed by machine, not by eye. With a mixed hardwood blend this matters most: screening is how we guarantee a clean, consistent, all-purpose product on every order, the kind our 20+ restaurant accounts depend on.

Step 06: Custom Fleet

Purpose-Built Delivery Fleet

We built our own delivery trucks from the ground up, with compartments sized to the exact cubic footage of every product we sell. When you order a face cord, that compartment holds exactly one face cord. No estimating, no eye-balling, no padding. Most firewood companies load by weight or by sight. Our trucks make it physical. What you order is what fits. Full stop.

Step 07: Delivery & Stacking

Delivered Ready to Burn

Your mixed hardwood arrives dried, screened, measured, and ready to burn off the truck. Every step — sourcing, drying, storage, screening, loading, and delivery — is handled in-house by our team. No subcontractors, no hand-offs. Same-week scheduling available throughout SE Wisconsin. Optional stacking service available at checkout.

Questions, Answered Directly

Mixed Hardwood Firewood — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything Wisconsin homeowners and weekend fire-pit owners ask before ordering mixed hardwood. Don't see your question? Call (262) 746-7416.

Is mixed hardwood firewood good to burn?
Yes. Mixed hardwood is the dependable, all-purpose choice for everyday burning. Our blend is built on ash and other Wisconsin hardwoods, kiln-dried to 15% so it lights easily and burns clean. It gives you reliable heat for the home, the fire pit, the bonfire, and the pizza oven, at the best value we offer. It is not the specialty pick for one specific job, it is the practical pick for nearly all of them.
What kinds of wood are in mixed hardwood firewood?
Our mix is mostly ash, with locust, maple, walnut, elm, and other Wisconsin hardwoods rotating through depending on the load. Every species in it is a true hardwood, and every batch is machine-screened for quality. Most sellers leave "mixed hardwood" vague, we name what is actually in it, which is how you know you are getting a consistent, all-purpose blend rather than whatever was left over.
How long does mixed hardwood firewood take to dry, and why is kiln-dried better?
Air-dried hardwood can take 6 to 18 months to season and often still reads above 20% moisture. We kiln-dry our mixed hardwood for 24 to 32 hours at 265°F to bring it down to 15%. That means it lights on the first match, burns hotter and cleaner with less smoke and creosote, and is ready the moment it arrives, no stacking it for a year and hoping.
How much does a cord of mixed hardwood firewood cost?
Mixed hardwood is our most economical wood. It runs from $129 for a 1/2 face cord up to $649 for a full cord, with a face cord at $259 and a half cord at $379. Delivery is calculated by zip code at checkout. See our cord of firewood guide if you are not sure which size you need.
Can I use mixed hardwood firewood for cooking or a pizza oven?
For a pizza oven, yes, mixed hardwood is excellent, because a pizza oven only needs clean, hot heat and not smoke flavor. For flavor cooking or smoking, no. The blend can include species that add no flavor or are not ideal for it, like locust, so for those cooks you want a single species instead. See our best wood for cooking guide to pick the right one.
Can I get mixed hardwood firewood delivered?
Yes. We deliver kiln-dried mixed hardwood throughout SE Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Waukesha, Oconomowoc, New Berlin, and surrounding communities. Shipping is calculated by zip code at checkout once you add to cart. Call (262) 746-7416 to schedule same-week delivery.
Is mixed hardwood firewood good for bonfires and fire pits?
It is the perfect wood for both. Mixed hardwood gives you a hot, steady, long outdoor fire without paying a premium for a single-species cord. Because it is kiln-dried to 15% and screened clean, it lights fast and throws far less smoke and popping than green or air-dried wood, which is exactly what you want around a fire pit or a backyard bonfire.

Good prices for all amounts of wood, and the half face cord of mixed hardwood lasts my wife and I most of the winter for the price. Customer service is quick and friendly and scheduling always goes smooth. The guys that drop it off are clean with the delivery. Best value firewood around. Will be a customer for years.

We are using it for our outdoor wood-fired pizza oven and it burns so clean. Lights fast, holds a steady fire, and none of the heavy smoke or popping we had with our old supplier. The mixed hardwood is dry and consistent every single delivery, and the price is right. Exactly what we needed.

Super dry mixed hardwood and ready to burn. First match, every time. We go through a lot of it in the backyard fire pit and the occasional bonfire and it is perfect for it. Called and placed the order with a friendly gal who answered all my questions, then they delivered exactly when promised. Great all-around wood. Highly recommended.
