Most decorative wood logs sold online are resin castings or veneer wrapped around foam. They photograph fine and look wrong in person: no weight, no grain, bark printed instead of grown. Everything in the Wood Décor Collection is real Wisconsin wood, bought by the semi load direct from Wisconsin loggers and prepared at our yard in New Berlin.
The birch is selected for the display pile the same way our firewood is graded for the burn pile: clean bark, straight sections, consistent diameters. Every piece is cut to a uniform 16 inches so sets stack level in a fireplace, line up in a log basket, and read as a deliberate arrangement instead of leftovers.
Nothing is dyed, stained, or coated. The white you see is the bark birch grows, and the pale face on each cut end is the wood underneath. It is the difference between decorating with an image of wood and decorating with wood.
The Only Treatment Is Heat
Bringing raw wood indoors is how people end up with insects in the living room. Every piece in the collection runs through a heat-treatment cycle designed to kill insects and larvae in the wood before it is packed, the same certified process our firewood operation runs year round. No chemical pesticides, no sprays, no sealants: heat does the whole job, and the wood comes out looking exactly like it went in.
Best Burn's heat treatment is USDA and WDATCP certified. Certification number HT# 2019086.
Decorative Wood FAQ
Anything we prepare for display instead of the fire. Right now that means white birch log sets, with wood table tops joining the collection soon. Every piece is real Wisconsin wood, cut and heat-treated at our New Berlin yard, never resin, ceramic, or printed veneer.
Firewood is graded and priced for the burn: heat output, clean ignition, cost per fire. Decorative wood is selected for how it looks: clean bark, straight sections, uniform cuts, and consistent diameters, then heat-treated so it is safe to display indoors. Same yard, different pile, different standard.
Solid wood table tops are next: rounds for centerpieces, cake stands, and seasonal displays. The collection grows as the right wood comes through the yard, so check back or watch the coming-soon tile above for the launch.
For the Fireplace You Do Light
Decorative wood is for looking at. If you came here to burn something, our kiln-dried firewood is cut, split, and ready for the fire, with pickup in New Berlin or delivery across SE Wisconsin.
