Our Story

Tyler and Brady Mainka started Best Burn Firewood in August 2016 at 20 years old, with one processor, one homemade kiln, zero employees, and a work ethic that most people would walk away from. Eighty-hour weeks. Barely enough income to survive. But a clear vision they refused to let go of. The idea came from their father — growing up in Waukesha with a wood stove in the house, nobody in southeastern Wisconsin was delivering firewood worth burning. Dirty loads, inconsistent quality, suppliers who didn’t care. Tyler and Brady saw the gap and decided to fill it. Kiln-dried only. Clean loads. No shortcuts. When they started, professional-grade firewood kilns built specifically for the industry were still a foreign concept to most suppliers in the region. Best Burn was among the first to bring in a dedicated firewood kiln from Kiln-Direct — built specifically for firewood production. Nobody in southeastern Wisconsin was asking for kiln-dried firewood because nobody knew what it was. Tyler and Brady built the market themselves, educating customers on why it burns hotter, lights faster, and produces less smoke. The market caught on.

Nearly a decade later, that homemade kiln has been replaced by an industrial operation running year-round in New Berlin, Wisconsin. Best Burn Firewood has grown into one of the Midwest’s leading firewood manufacturers and distributors — delivering to homeowners across southeastern Wisconsin, supplying commercial accounts throughout the state, and serving as a national firewood bundle distributor for Sam’s Club. The vision they had at 20? They built it.

From Raw Log to Your Door — Full Quality Control

We buy logs directly from Wisconsin logging contractors who perform DNR land clearing projects. Every step after that happens in-house — making us a vertically integrated firewood manufacturer with complete quality control at every stage.

Log Sourcing

Raw logs sourced directly from Wisconsin DNR land clearing contractors. Segregated by species on arrival and stacked on-site.

Processing

Logs split using a patented 16-way wedge system. Tumbled clean of debris via conveyor before moving to the kiln.

Kiln Drying

Every load heated to 265°F for 24–32 hours in industrial Kiln-Direct kilns. Eliminates moisture, pests, mold, and disease.

Indoor Storage

Finished firewood stored indoors, off the ground, protected from moisture and pests until delivery or packaging.

Screening

Every load machine-screened a second time before loading to remove any remaining debris. Clean wood every time.

Delivery

Loaded into custom delivery trucks that measure exact quantities. What you order is exactly what arrives — no shortcuts.
